Hiring a Domestic Worker in Cyprus
Hiring a domestic worker from a third country is straightforward once you know the rules. SL Recruitment handles all the paperwork — you simply choose the right person.
Who can hire — minimum annual gross income

Exempted from the income criteria: people certified by the Department of Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities; Guaranteed Minimum Income recipients; the Low Pensioners’ Allowance; and Incapacity/Invalidity Pension.
Number of workers: up to 2 if the employer is bedridden or significantly overweight; up to 3 for severe disability, or for families with income ≥€100,000. A male worker is permitted only where the employer has severe mobility limitations, with a specialist medical certificate.
Valid June 2026 — criteria are set by the Migration Department and change periodically; we always confirm the current rules before you apply.
Salary
This is the legal minimum gross salary. The actual pay can vary by the worker’s country of origin and current market trends — talk to us and we’ll advise you.
Your obligations as an employer
- Written employment contract
- Register the worker with Social Insurance and GHS (GeSY)
- Medical cover (GeSY + repatriation insurance, or a Plan A policy) plus employer’s liability insurance
- Suitable accommodation — a private room
- Respect working hours, the weekly rest day, leave and public holidays
Working hours & leave
Usually a six-day week with at least one rest day; hours are set in the contract. Annual paid leave is 24 working days, plus Cyprus public holidays.
